Lilly Singh: Superwoman

This is part of a series of posts. You can read the previous post here.

I was slacking off on Instagram on this fateful day (we all do it) when I came across someone’s post tagging this young lady. I clicked and thus began my sojourn in Unicorn Island. This was my first encounter with Lilly (two lls as she would always insist) Singh aka Superwoman. I checked her Instagram timeline and was amazed by this person that I had no idea existed up until that moment. Lilly is a YouTuber who makes funny videos. That’s what she does for a living. Her goal? To make people happy. Now, what makes this all so incredible is her story. She used to be a really sad person and she battled with depression. When she came out of it, she decided to make it her life’s mission to put a smile on other people’s faces. You laugh, she laughs. And that was how her journey into making YouTube videos started. It grew, and evolved into this big community of people, TeamSuper, who draw strength from her, who are inspired to be happy and live happier lives. Her YouTube channel has grown in the last five years with 11Million subscribers. Life Lessons From Zootopia

I felt like I was the last person on the face of the earth to watch Zootopia until a friend said she hasn’t seen it. So that would make me second to the last person? Plus made me wonder about our friendship and that thing they say about birds and feathers and flying. Fill in the gap.

Anyway, that’s not what this post is about. This is about the lessons I picked from the movie. This isn’t a review but I loved it so much that I had to do a post about it. I’ll try not to drop any spoilers in the event that, by any chance, there are still some people like my friend and me who are lazy movie watchers like to save stuff for later. So without further ado, let us begin. Continue reading “Life Lessons From Zootopia”

Adaora Mbelu-Dania: Dauntless

I wrote here a while back that I would do a post on the amazing people who inspire me, so in the spirit of sharing, here goes! So I decided to do a series of posts because putting them all in one post would result in one very long post that well, the length might chase y’all away. I am going to be drawing from my personal experience/ encounters with them and the virtues deposited in me. Note: This is not a biography. Why am I doing this? Other than to share these awesome people with you (don’t say I never gave you anything), I also want to celebrate the people who have (and are still) inspiring me to be and do better and also to remind myself that I too can aspire to greatness. So without further ado, let us begin…

It was on a hot night (well, every night is hot in Lagos) that a friend sent this e-banner to a group I belong to about some entrepreneurship class coming up. Continue reading “Adaora Mbelu-Dania: Dauntless”

I am participating in the Writing Contest: You Deserve to be Inspired. Hosted by Positive Writer. This is a part of my story I hardly ever share, willingly, and I can count on one hand how many times I actually have. But reading that article on Positive Writer and reading and being inspired by so many entries, I have decided to share mine. Maybe, just maybe, someone might be inspired by mine.

I was going to have an extra year. All the moments leading up to this had shown clearly that this would be the outcome. It was inevitable. Continue reading “Hurdles”

Photography, Reflection

I am learning that I like to capture moments. You know those moments between a perfect pose and the next? That uninhibited laughter, that knowing smile or chuckle or that random facial expression. These shots are sometimes imperfect because they are like spur of the moment-you-miss-them-when-you-are-not-looking, but I believe that there’s beauty even in this imperfection.
