Adesuwa Onyenokwe: Timeless

I wrote here a while back that I would do a post on the amazing people who inspire me, so in the spirit of sharing, here goes! So I decided to do a series of posts because putting them all in one post would result in one very long post that well, the length might chase y’all away. I am going to be drawing from my personal experience/ encounters with them and the virtues deposited in me. Note: This is not a biography. Why am I doing this? Other than to share these awesome people with you, I also want to celebrate the people who have (and are still) inspiring me to be and do better and also to remind myself that I too can aspire to greatness. So without further ado, let us begin…

For the longest time, right from my days in Secondary school, I always had people tell me I look like Adesuwa Onyenokwe (I’m serious, don’t roll your eyes). (more…)

No Strings: When Creativity Roams Free.

(That’s a rather long title right? I know. I couldn’t come up with anything else. Yep, I have been found out, I suck at titles. Sigh)

People of the world, have you seen that beats by Dre commercial with Dj Khaled, Pharrell Williams, Nikki Minaj, Michael Phelps and a long list of other celebrities and our very own Pinocchio! I’m sure you are wondering, err…Pinocchio? Yep, you read that right. (more…)

Beauty

Lately, I have been having conversations in my head (yes, I do that. That’s not weird at all) about what true beauty really is, majorly because of all of the increasingly popular trends in makeup like contouring etc. and all of the crap out there that dictate how a woman should look and if you don’t look like that, well… (more…)

Hurdles

I am participating in the Writing Contest: You Deserve to be Inspired. Hosted by Positive Writer. This is a part of my story I hardly ever share, willingly, and I can count on one hand how many times I actually have. But reading that article on Positive Writer and reading and being inspired by so many entries, I have decided to share mine. Maybe, just maybe, someone might be inspired by mine.

I was going to have an extra year. All the moments leading up to this had shown clearly that this would be the outcome. It was inevitable. (more…)

Moments

I am learning that I like to capture moments. You know those moments between a perfect pose and the next? That uninhibited laughter, that knowing smile or chuckle or that random facial expression. These shots are sometimes imperfect because they are like spur of the moment-you-miss-them-when-you-are-not-looking, but I believe that there’s beauty even in this imperfection. (more…)

January?

So January is over

I have fallen back into those old habits

The same ones I swore I would drop

I beat my chest and told myself, “It’s done! Never again will I be caught in this same hole”.

Done and dusted, I thought

Gone with 2016, or so I thought.

It’s been a little over 31 days and I am right back there (more…)

Taking Stock: 2016 In a Few Words

One day, in retrospect, the years of struggle will strike you as the most beautiful. – Sigmund Freud

2016 has been an interesting year for me. It was the year I stepped out and did things afraid. I can only see this in retrospect now because they didn’t feel like that back then. I took a lot of steps and made a lot of decisions especially with my career that I had somehow always just wondered about in 2015. (more…)
